COLUMBIA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

April 2010

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends,

I recently had the honor of being named the 2010 Black Alumni Council Heritage Award winner and attending the Heritage Reception. It was a wonderful evening of celebration and fellowship. Many of you were able to attend, and heard wonderful remarks from two of the newest members of Columbia’s African-American legacy: Dean of Columbia College, Michele Moody-Adams, and University Provost, Claude M. Steele.

It was a particularly important evening for me because it reminded me just how critical it is that we, as African-American alumni, support undergraduate education in our own community.

Gifts to the Black Alumni Council Scholarship Fund (BACSF) enable deserving students to afford a Columbia College education; the funds we raise are given back out in the form of $10,000 scholarships, granted in the name of the BAC. Despite terrible economic conditions in 2009, we raised enough money to support three students. This year we’re aiming even higher: our goal is $50,000 in order to support five students in the 2010-2011 academic year.

Our community is composed of alumni from schools across this University, from the College, to the Business School (like myself), and beyond. But we all have one thing in common—the foundation of a solid undergraduate college education.

Please join me this year by making a first-time gift to the Black Alumni Council Scholarship Fund and supporting undergraduate education today.

You can give in the following ways:
1. Make your one-time or recurring credit card gift online .

· Enter Columbia College (CC) as School or Division
· Designation - Unrestricted College Fund
· Direct your gift Black Alumni Council Scholarship Fund #17126 under "Special Instructions"

2. Mail your check (made out to Columbia University) to:

Black Alumni Scholarship Fund
Columbia Alumni Center
622 West 113th Street, MC4523
New York, NY 10025
Att: Katie Day

3. Contact Katie Day at 212-851-4025 to discuss other BACSF giving options.

Your gifts make a difference! Thank you!

Sincerely,

Douglas V. Holloway ’88BUS

P.S. Be on the lookout for information about the upcoming Scholarship Reception, where you'll have the chance to meet the students who benefit from your generous support--the recipients of this year's Black Alumni Council scholarships.
