Cole, the John Mitchell Mason Professor of the University at Columbia University and former provost and dean of faculties (1989-2003), for a talk about his new book, The Great American University: Its Rise to Preeminence, Its Indispensable National Role, Why It Must Be Protected.

     How and why have America's universities become preeminent? Professor Cole will discuss the evolution of our great institutions and how we must nurture this powerful national resource.
